Lessons From K-POP Demon Hunters

I wasn’t expecting to write about a Netflix show!

On Sunday, we were relaxing, and my daughter decided to put on Netflix and turn on K-Pop Demon Hunters. I quickly put my book down, and my wife gave me that look,  Is it okay for her to watch it. I smiled and said I wanted to see what interests them and what they like to watch.

Immediately, the show was engaging with the songs and the action sequences. So much so that my son bounced his eyes from his Nintendo Switch to the flat screen. As the movie continued, I noticed a common theme: accepting your uniqueness. The girl group was a group of demon hunters, but the main singer was half demon and half human. She struggled with what made her unique and chose to hide it until the patterns on her skin forced her to show it.

Not to spoil the movie, but in the end, her uniqueness helped everyone.

What are some things we can learn from this?

First, never hide who you are. Embrace what makes you different; that is your value to the world. Second, don't let your past weigh you down. Everyone makes mistakes; don't let the shame hold you back. Lastly, could you be bold in your uniqueness? There is only one you, and there can never be a copy. Never be afraid to step out as who you are. It's the only version that ever matters.

I broke into a million pieces, and I can't go back
But now I'm seeing all the beauty in the broken glass
The scars are part of me, darkness and harmony
My voice without the lies, this is what it sounds like
