Sometimes we just don't want to do it, day in and day out. Do you feel that consistency is challenging? Are you trying to go to success rather than grow to it? Join me in this short conversation about the D word—discipline.
For over a decade, I've seen this runner in my neighborhood; let's call him Darius. Darius runs early and runs every day. When I'm dropping the kids off at school, I see Darius running. When it's raining, I see Darius running. When the temperatures finally reach below 40 in Houston, I see Darius running. Even when we have a heat advisory, Darius is running.
We wave at each other daily, and now his teenage son joins him, as well as a fellow neighbor.
Is there a goal you have in mind? Have you counted the cost it would take to reach that goal? I really don't know if Darius is running because he loves it. Maybe it's for a marathon, or maybe he has a dream to make it to the Olympics.
Success isn't something we chase, but it is a byproduct of discipline. When discipline becomes a lifestyle, growth is inevitable. Discipline is the governor of potential, the manager of destiny, the protector of purpose, and the architect of growth. When you are disciplined, growth becomes a harvest you can't stop.
There is no special key to success, only a combination. Discipline is a combination to destiny. You must follow the sequence every day. Waking up early is a number. Planning is a number. Focus is a number. Prayer is a number. Daily action is a number. When you follow the combination, your destiny door will open.
The greatest threat to your destiny has always been your relationship with discipline. When your intention marries discipline, then and only then will your door finally be opened to the life you always wanted.
