What skill is very underrated? Speaking of course, but why?
Many first-time parents experience little sleep because of changing diapers, feeding, and cleaning their newborn. The newborn's main method of communication is crying. Crying can mean anything: "I'm hungry," "I'm sleepy," or even "I'm hurting." But every parent knows that every cry is different. Learning the difference shows our children we are listening and that we understand.
As we grow, maybe we lose sight of the importance of communication—the importance of understanding. If we aren't able to communicate effectively, how can the other person understand effectively? We are always public speaking: to our spouse, our children, at the workplace, but most importantly, to ourselves.
Words are the most powerful tool we use every day. Words have been used to help push society forward, but sometimes to harm. Take the chance to reflect on some things you might have wanted to say but didn't know how to say. Communication has always been important and will continue to be important.
The more you work on communicating, the more others will learn to understand you. Until next time, believe, learn, and apply.
